Introducing Amanita Security

I am incredibly pleased to announce the launch of Amanita Security, a new cybersecurity consulting company dedicated to providing trusted cybersecurity services to product manufacturers.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

Product manufacturers are facing a steep learning and adoption curve when it comes to integrating cybersecurity in their products.

The adoption of technology and connectivity in products continues to accelerate, with no signs of abating. Many of these new technologies increase the attack surface of the products and the clients using them. Because of this evolution, attackers are becoming more interested in targeting products, so the likelihood and impact of security incidents increases.

Mandatory regulatory requirements and increased liability risks are being adopted and the required compliance will move manufacturers to strengthen the security of their products.

Finally, embedded systems overall still have lower security maturity than IT systems, despite a longer active lifespan and frequently being used in critical environments.

To make this transition successful, engineering organisations must adapt at high speed to integrate all these changes into their ways of working.

This is not a new analysis and there are positive strands, in the sense that many technical security controls are available to be used when designing new products. We have learned a lot about integrating security into organisational processes, some of which have been formalised into standards.
